ABDOMINOPLASTY SURGERY
NOTE: ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING
MEDICATIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH FOOD
IMMEDIATELY AFTER SURGERY AND FOR THE FIRST 48 HOURS
Resist vomiting if possible, even if nauseated – medication for nausea can be prescribed as needed.
Soft, diet. No alcoholic beverages.
Get up to go to the bathroom. Rest and relax otherwise. You should walk with assistance no less than once the first night. Flex and extend your feet regularly when lying or seated to help prevent blood clots.
Get out of bed by rolling to a sitting position, then rise. DO NOT STRAIN BY RAISING STRAIGHT UP!!
Keep your waist flexed at no less than 30 degrees when sitting (pillows behind your back and under your knees). When you walk, keep flexed at the waist (DO NOT STRAIGHTEN UP COMPLETELY).
Monitor your drain output and record.
Do not take blood thinners.
Do not place hot or cold objects on your abdomen, as it will likely be numb (this applies until sensation completely returns).
Frequently check the tightness of your abdominal binder to make sure it is not constrictive to your abdomen.
CALL US IF:
- Abdominal swelling or severe bloating occurs.
- Large amount of blood on binder (some staining is normal) that keeps enlarging or dripping.
- Temperature over 100 degrees Farenheit.
- Excessive pain
- Shortness of breath
- Other concerns
AFTER 24-48 HOURS
- Your bandages will be changed.
- Continue to wear binder night and day.
- You may be able to shower, if cleared by Dr. Jones.
- You may drive when not taking narcotic, or sedating medications.
- No exercise, lifting greater than 10 lbs., or any other strenuous activity for 8 wks or otherwise instructed.
- Continue to monitor drain output and continue oral antibiotics until the drains are removed.
